Review of Clockers (1995) by Jah R — 15 May 2007
I happened to see this movie over the weekend, and was reminded all over again how great a movie this was. A newfound respect for Spike Lee was ressurrected. He has always been very conscious and put messages in his films. My opinion of him had been soured over the years because, in all honesty, he did release a few films that were pure crap. That, and the annoying way he had of always putting himself in his movies. Also the cinematography shot he always did, where the person is standing still but the background is moving.... you know what I'm talking about.
Nevertheless, though this film was obviously made in the '90s, the story and moral ring true to this day. You deal drugs, you either get killed, go to jail, or spend the rest of your life in hiding. The plot is still fresh after 12 years (!) Nice job, Spike.
