Charming 80's action adventure shows its age and suffers from a weak screenplay and mediocre performances. The cinematography is average but the effects and music are superb. It starts strong with the idea of a boys imagination reaching into a real world drama but the pacing is all over the shop but it just never quite finds a consistent tone that works for a family audience.
Instead it kind of alienates both. Weird but kind of cool at the same time.
