Another rating that is more than generous. There are problems galore with this movie - a silly script, excessive violence. an implausible plot, weak acting. But somehow it's still enjoyable. Cliffhanger is in the same genre has Die Hard - bad guys attempting to steal a ridiculous amount of money are rebuffed by Joe Ordinary - joe ordinary in this case being Gabe the park ranger.
Multiple explosions, violent deaths, and one liners give the movie just enough character to be successful. Is this graceful artistic cinema? Absolutely not. But is it fun? Sure.
