Review of Cliffhanger (1993) by Daniel D — 05 Apr 2012
Back in 1993 I was thirteen years old and I went to the movies to see this. Sly was making a comeback, and for a little while Finnish director Renny Harlin's career was on the way UP. A lot has changed since then, but this is still a fine action movie, and to me personally it is a standard.
It's certainly one of Harlin's (and Stallone's, for that matter, though he has more films to choose from) better movies, and John Lithgow's role as the baddie defies easy description. Is he bad, or so bad he is good? PS: To us Finns, Harlin is known for putting Finnish things in his films as "easter egss" for the viewers to find.
Boy, is his egg metaphorical in this one; if only he knew he was decribing his future career.
