Review of Clerks (1994) by Just S — 23 Dec 2010
Funny as hell, but some of the stuff in the second half of this film is just unnecessary. You really start to feel bad for Dante as all of this bad shit starts happening to him at once, and honestly, I still found some of it funny, but when most of it happened, I didn't find it funny at all! I just constantly felt bad for Dante, and pissed at Randal because even though he's right about a lot of things he says, he's still a colossal jerk, and obviously annoying as a result.
Overall the film is really funny, especially the first half. It's just that I can take all of Dante's misfortunes to a point...once he starts to travel through the latter levels of hell as part of the Divine Comedy motif, a lot of the stuff that Kevin Smith intended to be funny just comes across as cruel.
