Review of Clerks (1994) by Edgar C — 10 Nov 2012
"This is Jim Jarmusch gone consummerist and catastrophic", I whispered to myself even before reading the final credits. Clerks is a fantastic contemporary spoof against social procedures and existentialist banalities. It is also an insane vehicle fully ridden by an explosive screenplay completely charged with intellectual geekness and superbly written and delivered "punch" monologues and dialogues. Whether Smith opted for a more mainstream path afterwards (dude, are you surprised by that, really??), this independent gem holds an important place among the cult comedy classics. Thank you, Smith, for having me on the verge of laughing!! You little genius!
86/100.
