Review of Clerks (1994) by Ryan V — 25 Mar 2012
Clerks follows a convenience store worker (Brian O'Halloran) slogging through a hellish shift on his day off. His half-assed efforts to perform his duties are overshadowed by relationship drama, a rooftop hockey game, an unfortunate display at an exgirlfriend's wake, and a generously massive amount of banter.
Clerks was a main viewing staple during my high school years and I'm still impressed by writer/director Kevin Smith's regular-guy humor and knack for dialogue. Later movies would return to this well with uneven levels of success, but Clerks is still a remarkably funny gem of indie comedy.
