Review of Clerks (1994) by Jamie R — 03 Mar 2013
Clerks started it all. Without Clerks there isn't Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Clerks 2, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Cop out, or Red State. It all started with Clerks.
Clerks is a movie about nothing, so why is it so entertaining? It has basically no plot, the acting is iffy, the quality is bad, this movie was destined to fail. But what overcomes all problems in cinema is a good script. It doesn't matter if you can't even see anything if it has a good script, and Clerks does. Some may call it an hour and thirty minutes of dick and fart jokes, but it's not only that, it goes through the problems of relationships and friendship (which will be gone deeper into through Smiths career, see Chasing Amy) and it is incredibly funny.
Clerks is a movie you want to see, no matter what kind of movie you're into. It's fun, its outrageous, it's the movie it set out to be.
