Review of Clerks (1994) by Ninon M — 04 Mar 2018
It looks like some clumsily juxtaposed surveillance camera shots, and it stinks its shoestring budget in each and every one of its frames. That's not all - for 'Clerks' displays - and that's the whole idea - an amateurish acting and an oddball humor felt in its long, memorable patches of dialogue.
And it's all about looking exactly like what it is, for 'Clerks' doesn't pretend to be anything else than that- and you can either criticize Kevin Smith's work for It's just taking a video store with bad movies and a market and doing a film with it - and no matter how awkward the result is, it just becomes part of the eccentric appeal of the movie - and that's what defines a gifted filmmaker.

That's not all - since the movie displays - and that's the whole idea - an amateurish acting and an oddball humor in its long, memorable patches of dialogue. And it's all about looking exactly like that, for 'Clerks' doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it is- and you can either criticize Kevin Smith's work for it, or admire the squeaking, raw charm of his work.
I fall in the second category.
