Review of Clerks (1994) by Galaxy Quest P — 19 Apr 2012
What I love about this film is its pacing. Particularly of the gags. It has this consistency to it, you find yourself laughing every 5 minutes, or so, sometimes very heavily. I haven't watched a film that's made me laugh like that in a long, damn time.
Too long, longer than I'd care to admit. If you don't like Kevin Smith's other work (Dogma, Mall Rats) I can't guarantee that you'll like this. He has a very specific style, I like to think of him as the comedy version of Quentin Tarantino (Let's face it though, Tarantino has made some pretty funny sequences in some of his scripts) Now don't get me wrong, I don't think he has a similar style to the T-Man, he's just the type of director that has hallmarks and stamps that you get used to and frequently enjoy when watching his flicks.
Anyway, babbling aside, this film is hilarious, it's characters are very well written and so is their dialogue. It was produced on a next-to-zero budget and gained acclaim as well as a healthy amount of money returned.
But that doesn't say enough, because money couldn't buy the fantastic and disgusting jokes that K.Smith presents to his audience with confidence and a lack of reprise.
