Review of Clean (2022) by Tvjerry — 01 Feb 2022
Adrien Brody not only stars, but also produced, co-wrote the screenplay and composed the music, so you can expect a bit of a self-indulgent vanity project. Anytime the first thing you hear is an inner monologue, you're in for pretention.
He plays a garbage collector determined to stay clean, from drugs and his previous (bad) life. Natch, something happens in his relatively self-contained world that causes his previous violent side to emerge.
After a rather uninteresting hour, the expected revenge erupts in a bloody, but confusingly-staged killing spree. Brody relishes this opportunity to be haunted by his past, but when the pivotal event is revealed, it's an unrealistic stretch for tragic effect.
While the bearded Brody manages sufficient charisma to keep it from being an utter bore, the film never builds much dramatic tension or emotional effect.
