Review of CLAW: The Collective of Lady Arm Wrestlers (2012) by Brian W — 28 Aug 2014
OK, admittedly I made the movie. But after five years of working on it, I think it joyfully embraces the spirit of CLAW. Why not five stars? I reserve that status for all time classics. Like Spartacus.
Actually CLAW is better than Spartacus and just as noble. I meant Apocalypse Now. Actually, there is a CLAWpocalypse Now - and it's almost as crazy and it has more women in it than just USO Playboy bunnies.
But, the real reason for this entry is to provide a few liner notes. Not all CLAW events are the same. And not all the leagues run the same way. Some have more diversity than others. Transgender issues are treated differently.
And ethnic costume is a big issue. Some leagues discourage things like wearing a burqa or a Native American headdress - and those leagues have issue with the depictions of inappropriate attire in the film.
Some say there's to much sexuality in the film. Some say there's not enough. So, you can't please everyone. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the film and start a league in your town - and make up your own rules.
That's part of the point, right?
