Review of Class of 1999 (1990) by ***Charlie*** — 13 Sep 2008
So I graduated a year before this film is suppose to take place which makes it so much greater. The fact that there was suppose to be an apocalyptic future with crazy robots within 9 years of the making of this movie was pretty ambitious.
The acting is really good with a really shitty script. It makes it ultra-comedic and cheesy. It's about a future where gangs run the states and there is no law... but yet people go to school... And the school got out of control so they built robot teachers... and there is a jail where you go if you're too bad. I don't get how there is no law, but yet there kind of is (or there would be no jail, right... whatever) There's plot holes and shit that doesn't make sense and all kinds of crazy stupidity, but it's enjoyable for what it is.
It reminded me of Troma's Class of Nuke 'Em High, only more series (not a comedy... or at least not trying to be a comedy).
I dug the 1984 theme subtly playing the "OBEY". And there is Malcolm Mcdowell in it.
In the end it was pretty much a crappy terminator like rip-off and it had a lot of potential to be pretty bad ass, but I was entertained.
