Review of Class of 1984 (1982) by Braden A — 29 Dec 2006
Wow...to be honest I was getting ready to really dislike this movie - I often find 80s teen culture to be totally annoying, and I was expecting this to not only reflect that but also be beyond cheesy with terrible pop music and even worse acting.
I was incredibly surprised when much of the acting was actually very good - especially Perry King as Mr. Norris - and it was set to punk music instead of cheesy 80s pop.
This is not to say that the movie is devoid of cheese, since it has its fair share. But luckily it wasn't bathing in gorgonzola...simply sprinkled with a little bit of parmesan.
Genuinely disturbing and prophetic, though obviously a bit over the top in order to convey the total downfall of American youth.
Another thing I really appreciated was that Lester also acknowledged the presence of good kids, and that they still outnumber the bad ones. One great line that represented this went something like, "There are still plenty of great people out there...it's just that the few bad ones get all of our attention.".
I really dug this movie and I'd love to pick up the DVD for myself - thanks for sharing, Jen!
