Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Stephen L — 15 Dec 2009

This movie a turd. But it's a fun turd to watch. Despite the immense talent of the cast's collected body of work, the script is very over the top and encourages over-acting. But I guess this kind of fits with the epic myth the movie is portraying.

I was surprised to learn that this was made in 1981 because even then the special effects were dated. Harryhausen made a very important contribution to the development of movie special effects but by this period his stop-motion style was largely obsolete, thanks in part to Star Wars.

But again, part of the appeal is that this feels like an older, classic Hollywood movie.
