Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Justin M — 13 Apr 2010
Although the effects may be dated, this is still a fun old school adventure film in the vein of 'Star Wars' or 'Raiders of the lost Ark,' while never being as good as either of them. It holds up surprisingly well 30 years later.
The dialogue isn't Shakespeare, but it moves things along nicely. The performances are somewhat sturdy: Laurence Olivier does the mighty Zeus justice, Maggie Smith does well as the villain god, Harry Hamlin is a watchable generic hero, and Burgess Meredith provides the hero solid support.
The effects were great back in the day, and some of them are still impressive given the technology available. The best effect of all is Medusa, a scary and lethal creation. While it's no classic, it makes for a somewhat fun B-movie watch on a boring night.
