Review of Clash of the Titans (1981) by Chris M — 08 Apr 2010
Now this is more like it! If you're not satisfied with the 2010 remake of "Clash of the Titans" (as I wasn't), check this out. It's better in every way. Better story, better acting, and, in my opinion, better effects.
There are a few effects here and there that may look dated, but the stop motion magic by the legendary Ray Harryhausen is absolutely astonishing. His work is the real show stopper of the film. Forget CGI.
With CGI, you know that it was all made with a computer. There's nothing organic about it. But with older movies like this, the magic behind these effects is a mystery. Plus, it's more organic.
You know that the thing on the screen was crafted by someone and is a material thing that actually exists. The Medusa is still frightening after all these years, and the effects still amaze.
