Review of Claire's Knee (1970) by Thomas W — 23 Jun 2007
Who ever said a conversation-driven plot can't be absorbing? Rohmer, another great new wave director to emerge from the cahiers du cinema collective, made a series of films in the 60s and early 70s that involve characters (usually male) faced with some relatively mundane moral problem which they attempt to talk through, usually making themselves appear ridiculous/obsessed/neurotic in the process.
All of these films are quite good, though the final three are my favorites.
