Review of Claire's Knee (1970) by Aaron J — 30 Jun 2007
One of the heights of french cinema. Tells the story of a man who is about a month away from getting married. He takes a vacation and has two very innocent affairs. One involves only finding out if a girl has feelings for him and the other involves simply touching a girl's knee.
I found myself questioning his character but when it came down to it he was exactly the kind of man he made himself out to be. Eric Rohmer has a certain way of writing characters that seem so well definied at every moment but that always have a way of surprising us.
This is a film to see.
