Review of CJ7 (2008) by Robert T — 11 Aug 2008
I wanted to view this film for some time now, and though I was never a fan of Stephen Chow's other efforts, I was quite curious about this one. Before viewing the film, I thought it was more of a children film, and it somewhat was, but it was also a film for all ages.
And though the film had some wonderful comedy and drama elements, it left me a little confused and, well, bored. The film's story and plot was notable, but it wasn't that interesting. The film's characters were all unique, but the language barriers made me more interested in hearing the cast's Chinese language than being committed in understanding each of the characters.
This could tell you sometime: the character developments in the film were lacking. The main "antagonist" in the film wasn't all that bad, and I thought he did a wonderful job portraying a troubled school student.
His CJ7 friend was cool, but I also noticed the film's CGI animation wasn't on par with most today's CGI animation. Heck, even "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" looked better. Nonetheless, the film was interesting.
It was that entertaining, but unique enough for family viewing on Sunday nights. Honestly, the film's poster was more interesting than the film itself.
