Odd sense of humor, like some of Chow's other movies. But otherwise great. Never goes in the directions that I thought it would.
About themes I didn't expect- like poverty and how it frustrates the father and son.
Also, the movie touches on ideas beyond simple wish fulfillment. Dicky learns that his new pet (miraculous as it might be) won't end all his problems - especially in the way that he wants them solved. Even though he feels entitled to a better life, he has to revise his high expectations.
