Review of CJ7 (2008) by Sol H — 23 Feb 2010
This is like Robert Rodriguez's kids films except with Stephen Chow in place of Robert Rodriguez -so better, basically.
It's easy to see how this still hasn't had a UK release. Unlike Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, this is a family film through and through -but one that's quite innapropriate for kids at times due to cutlural differences. All the same, the thing reeks of Stephen Chow, in a good way. There's some nice little comedy moments even if the end result is a completely uneven film that meanders off, goes a bit preachy here and there and never really tries anything new.
Worth watching if you're a Chow fan, but only to 'complete the set' so to speak.
Personal enjoyment: 6/10.
Actual quality as a film: 5/10.
