Review of City of the Living Dead (1980) by Matt C — 19 Jun 2007
See, this is probably Lucio Fulci's most atmospheric and creepy movie but it's also pretty silly at times (characters going on lunch breaks when they have only 2 days to save the world, anyone?).
The priest is ridiculously creepy and is totally in place with the dreadful atmosphere of Dunwich, the titular city of the living dead. The ending is pretty weak as is the final showdown but up until that point the audience is treated to one of Fulci's finest movies.
It's got a slow pace but there's usually something interesting going on, and the pace really sets the mood for the ensuing creepiness very well. If you can forget about the plot a bit and watch it with an open mind, you might find something worthwhile here.
