City of God this film is not (but nothing will ever compare to that masterpiece), City of Men isn't so much a sequel as it is a film version of the television show depicting two more youths caught in the chaos of Rio de Janeiro.
Plenty of the film's more violent scenes feel like an homage to the masterful Battle of Algiers and the performances by Douglas Silva, Darlan Cunha, and Rodrigo dos Santos are all top notch.
