Review of City of Men (2007) by Toni T — 24 Jul 2008
Though I enjoyed parts of this film, I was ultimately let down. This movie lacked the humor, colorful storylines, and splashy editing of the original TV show. I also felt that the end conflict between Ace and Wallace was not needed. I wanted to see more of their adventures/misadventures throughout the city and more of the conflict between Midnight and Fiel. The cinematography and color-timing was great though (if not alot more calm and refined than what I've come to enjoy in films like City of God), and Darlan Cunha & Douglas Silva delivered great performances. I just expected alot more fun and closure to the City of Men series. But, The film meandered around too much for me to really immerse myself in the story.
Maybe the producers will work on getting a new season of the show back on TV.
