A worthy (eventual) follow-up to the excellent City of God, even if it fails to reach the dazzling heights that achieved. Almost certainly more effective if seen with the background of the 4 seasons of the TV show, as it aims to tie up storylines & themes considered through the many episodes.
The aims are lofty, portraying the humour, drama, colour & life of a world so gritty, poor and violent, and at times the balance falters, but in the whole it's a stunning success.
