Review of City of Men (2007) by Jacob D — 01 Oct 2008
This is film has everything City of God had, and more. Maybe the only thing missing is the electric speed of the previous, but this film will not disappoint.
It's actually two movies in one, one follows the story of the gang of Dead End Hill and the other tells the coming-of-age tale of Acerola and Laranjinha.
It's filmed just as beautiful and electric as City of God, but with more and better views and places.
Gritty and beautiful cinematography, teamed with top-notch direction and flawless acting, dialogue and story, and last but not least, a really great soundtrack equals a 5 star film.
There's everything you could ask for in this film, there's gangster violence, gun fights and machismo, there's sweet and painful love stories, there's fatherhood morals, existential coming-of-age survival tales, twists, turns, etc.
I loved it, just as good as City of God, just slightly different.
