Looks and feels like an Indian movie, except it is totally in English, only about 2 hours long, and has no dancing or scenes in Switzerland. It is a dramatic movie, filmed in Calcutta, which shows life in the slums where an American doctor finds his calling.
It is excellent, with memorable performances by Om Puri and Shabana Azmi (she can totally underplay a part, but cannot help but stand out). I also enjoyed seeing Ayesha Dharker (from "Outsourced") as a teen-ager and Patrick Swayze as the doctor.
