Review of City of God (2002) by Ciaran O — 19 Jul 2011
This is in my list of top ten greatest movies I have ever seen. If you took "Goodfellows" and set it in Rio Di janerio and replaced mobsters with young kids from the streets, you get a idea of the movie.
Although very dark and violent, it has a heart as we follow the protagonist who wants to break away from the streets and become a photographer. It has a good sense of humor, incredible cinematography and engaging characters.
Once you start watching you can not take your eyes off the screen. The fact that it is a true story will blow your mind, Sorry, it is subtitles but don't let a little reading keep you from missing such a incredible film.
