Review of City of God (2002) by Erik H — 25 Jul 2011
Amazing! - Shocking and slightly disturbing, extremely entertaining and very compelling. A brilliant tale shot and constructed fantastically. The direction, cinematography, and editing are outstanding. Based in the slums of Rio De Janiero during the three decades the 60's, 70's and 80's this movie mainly focuses on the story of two young boys, one who becomes a photographer and the other who becomes a drug dealer. The tale of the 'City of God', is narrated by Rocket, a young man who struggles to make something of his life, other than to wind up another victim of drugs or gang warfare.
As the movie progresses we meet all the characters who are all absolutely fascinating and learn of their stories and how they are all connected together.
In my opinion greatest movie ever made.
10/10, A+.
