Review of City of God (2002) by Marilee A — 15 Oct 2011
Crazy brilliant photography, especially well-handled through the beginning sequence, and how narrative all ties back, very fluidly to one coherent central point. Subtitling had much to be deserved, as did more focus on set culture versus its transposition into more Western comforts.
At times, the shots aid to dispel this, but altogether unjustly shows through exposing certain mishandling of an otherwise very sensitive story.
