Review of City of God (2002) by Daren W — 11 Nov 2011
After discovering this movie was in the top 20 movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database, I decided to see what was so good about it. After viewing it, I must admit that it deserved all its praise.
This Brazilian film takes a compelling look at life in the slums of Buenos Aires, called the City of God (Cidade de Deus), during the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It's a dangerous and disturbing place ruled by gangs, filled with guns and drugs.
I don't think my description does it justice. The acting and direction were superb. Honestly, the story kinda reminded me a little of Grand Theft Auto, but it didn't try to be cool or anything and was more realistic.
If you somehow manage to get a copy of this film, I highly recommend you watch it.
