Review of City of God (2002) by Mitch A — 08 Jun 2012
Some people will be turned off by the subtitles and mostly unknown Brazilian cast, but I cannot think of an English-speaking film to come out in the past decade better than this one. This film's ability to portray such passion and energy through visuals reminds me of the very best of Danny Boyle, while the heavy subject matter it deals in and the ability to elevate the setting almost into a character itself are like nothing else except perhaps for HBO's "The Wire".
Gorgeous and terrifying, this is not one to be missed.
