Review of City of God (2002) by Han W — 31 Dec 2012
Scorsese goes Brazilian in Meirélles powerful, nonstop, violent and frenetic tale of crime in the darkest slums of South America. Taking a heavy influence from Buñuel's famous neorealist masterpiece Los Olvidados (1950) (funny how everyone noticed that ^o^), Cidade de Deus is a reminder of which were the absolutely fantastic movies of the new millennium. Stunning and brutal.
97/100.
