Review of City of God (2002) by Frank V — 11 Apr 2014
City of God is an analysis into a slum in Brazil, that is chock full of interesting characters, violence, and dramatic zooms that would make Tarantino proud. The story follows a young boy as he tries to avoid gang life and chase his dreams to become a photographer.
Its delightfully dark, but at times feels sightly messy trying to follow multiple story lines without the precision of a Pulp Fiction or Snatch. The cinematography is good, but not overly so and The acting was good but nothing much more.
Overall City of god is great, but had the potential to be absolutely spectacular. 4/5.
