Review of City of God (2002) by Garrett C — 11 May 2014
The Brazilian equivalent of Goodfellas/Once Upon a Time in America. The film really shows how human nature and storytelling doesn't really differ among other countries and cultures. Put the exact same stories and characters into New York City and you have a Scorsese movie that makes complete sense.
Besides these comparisons, the film is very invigorating, heartbreaking, and stylish. It fully deserves its status among critics.
