Review of City of Ember (2008) by Mario . — 11 Jun 2009
I think anyone who is familiar with Walden Media is also familiar with its success with The Chronicles of Narnia. While they seem to have done fairly well for themselves with that material they certainly didn't take a page out of their own book when creating City Of Ember.
Dispite casting some known actors (Bill Murray, Tim Robbins) they are merely there to add a bankable familiar face to an otherwise lackluster film. The material is weak, the set design has no imagination and the creature effects which is what Walden is famous for look all to fake at times.
This film should never have been greenlit and should have been a TV made 2 hour event which is what this film feels like. By the end of the film I was like..."That was it???". My advice is to save your money and rent Narnia again.
