Review of City of Ember (2008) by Celia P — 12 Aug 2009
City of Ember is about an underground city that has been inhabited by people for generations. But the generator that has given everyone energy is now failing and it's to 2 kids to explore Ember and find a way to save it. While the Mayor "a wasted and miscast Bill Murray" claims he's going to figure things out, while secretly he's more interested in saving himself.
The movie looks good and Seoirsa Ronan gives one of the better performances as the young girl out to save the people of Ember. I also found the movie to be fun even if the effects were a little weak during action scenes. The water looked too fake for instance in a scene where the heroes are riding a boat on top of a big wave. While the giant mutated rat thing looked a little too rubbery and fake looking. I also found that the end came a little sudden. Despite that I I thought the movie was a decent family adventure. It's pretty harmless and will probably keep your attention through-out; it's not too special though.
