Review of City of Ember (2008) by Caleb M — 18 Aug 2009
A beautiful and captivating film filled with visual wonder and enough adventure to hold an entire audience captive. City of Ember joins Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events as one of the most underrated children's literature adaptations this decade.
Kenan has showed us magnificent visuals before, and he brings an erie look to this Logan's Run-esque tale. The cast is wonderful as well, from vets like Tim Robins, Bill Murray and Martin Landau to younglings Harry Treadaway and Saoirse Ronan.
Ronan proves again that she can, and should, carry a film with her spirited and human performances. She would make a delightful Alice for Alice in Wonderland.
