Review of City of Ember (2008) by Kathleen P — 09 Sep 2009
City of Ember is creative and fantastical, engaging from the very beginning. The dirty, grungy, run-down look of the city is gorgeous in an artistic way, and the casual use of complicated contraptions and lots of cloth, yarn, pipes and cables for the setting is really intriguing.
I love the darkly weathered, vintage look of this movie. The story is an ongoing mystery involving an underground city and why the power supply is failing. It speaks of complacency versus hope in a dying existence, and the end sent me chills.
