Review of City of Angels (1998) by Alex L — 26 Nov 2009
City Of Angels was beautifully filmed, the acting was incredibly tender and it has a powerful soundtrack.
Meg Ryan stars as Maggie, a cardiac surgeon who loses a patient on the operating table, and can't stop blaming herself for what happened. Nicolas Cage is wonderful and incredibly moving as Seth, an angel sent to take the patient to the other side, and when he sees Maggie, he immediately falls in love with her and gives up his divine status.
I liked the twisted ending but some romantics will have a difficult time with it. I gotta say such is life..sh*t happens and pain and heartache is all a part of it. At the end of the movie, when the other angel asks: Was it all worth it? "Seth answers: "I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand than eternity without it.".
I got to confess that whenever I hear the song "Iris" from City of Angels, it brings tears to my eyes and touches my heart. I think the message was clear. It's great to be human!!
