Review of City Lights (2014) by Joakim L — 07 Apr 2008
The best Chaplin movie ever. I have seen it over and over again. I never get tired of it.
I cry, laugh and cry again. See it.
Even though Chaplin was pushed by his brother Sidney to make talking pictures Chaplin refused to even to utter one word as the tramp. "The tramp doesn't talk" he said.
He was right. The film turned out to be a.
Masterpiece. He had difficulties with his leading lady Virginia Cherrill. He had a screen test made with his co-star from "The Goldrush" Georgia Hale. But in the end Virginia completed the film.
Afterwords she said: "Charlie never liked me and I never liked Charlie".
