Review of City Lights (2014) by Fabian K — 22 Oct 2008
I thought I'd give silent pictures another shot. But I have to say, I can't stand them. The so called comedy element is limited to people falling because their chair was removed, getting a flowerpot in their head, or perhaps something as hilarious a person having a barrel of water over thrown over them. That just isn't funny to me. It's interesting to see how much disney short cartoons borrowed from Chaplin though, and the influence it has has on other movies.
I ended up trying to find where the jokes were supposed to be, and trying to see if the story alone was worth it. For me, it wasn't.
