Review of City Lights (2014) by Lauren D — 08 Apr 2009
Before everyone complains about the rating, I have seen other silent movies before, all of them much better than this. This is also the first Charlie Chaplin movie I have seen and am now extremely annoyed that there are so many in the Top 250, because it means I'm going to have to sit through more of this.
I'm not a fan of physical comedy, generally. I also haven't seen much 'older' comedy (ie, pretty much nothing before Monty Python), although I love the Marx brothers and think they're absolutely hilarious.
Now, to this movie. I failed to find anything funny. It was really boring and pointless. The music was horrible as well, especially the stuff playing during the boxing scene. So, I would pretty much ignore this movie unless 1) You're trying to get through movie lists, like I am or 2) you're some arty farty person who only likes movies that are regarded as classics by AFI and the like, or only watch movies before 1960.
