Review of City Lights (2014) by Michael A Elkana F — 27 Nov 2009
Easily Chaplin's best work. I can't describe how incredible this film is. Charlie Chaplin is not my favorite actor, writer, director, or composer. He's my favorite person. Even though I know little about him, I think he's the most interesting to have ever lived.
Modern Times, and City Lights are proof of that. I'm not really going to talk about this film, because I believe I can't give it justice. You must see it, to know how good it is. But I will end on this note.
.. In James Berardinelli's review of City Lights, he mentions how it was screening outside with a gigantic audience. At the end of the film, Charlie stood from a high balcony, and waved to the crowd.
If you watch the film, you will know why if I were there to witness that magical moment, tears would roll down my eyes.
