City Lights - A heartfelt and extraordinary film about true love and romance.

City Lights is a true landmark in American cinema, the very powerful storyline and the outstanding brilliant direction makes this movie one of the best motion pictures ever made in the history of cinemas. The fragrance of the movie is the 'Tramp' played by Charlie Chaplin, one of the most sensuous, funny , timeless and immortal characters ever portrayed by the Mozart of Cinema's The Great Chaplin. The word outstanding and excellent might be an understatement for this charismatic and immortal genius who directed, scripted and acted in this movie. This silent movie speaks to the world through its puissant storytelling, the emotions flowing between the 'Tramp' and his love the 'Blind Girl' are so rejuvenating and soul stirring. Even after 81 years of its release City lights might be the only movie that can deeply burn your heart to such an extent that you will nearly cry out of happiness when the movie ends. The comedy might look slap stick but to see Chaplin enact it is so beautiful and funny. The name of the movie is about a night in which the tramp amidst the cities night lights make's money for this beautiful blind girl's eye operation. He endures in Herculean and dangerous tasks on that day all for saving his true love from being in the streets forever. The story is quite simple but the narration is elegant and masterful. The casting is great and the ironic closing scene is one of the most heartfelt and touching sequences ever. If a soul is not touched by that sequence then perhaps nothing can ever touch him. The cinematography is so picturesque and focuses on the characters so well. Being a silent film, the narration and the actions of the characters are of prime importance. And true to that Chaplin and the rest of the cast does great. City lights is a flaming and soul stirring motion picture about true love and unlike many Chaplin's pictures in which only slap stick comedy is shown this movie masterfully captures the emotional buzz between the two characters in a very musical and rhythmic way.

My rating :A+.
