Review of City Lights (1931) by Daniel T — 20 Jul 2008
My favorite Chaplin silent. He is most known for this film, even moreso than "The Gold Rush," which he wanted to be his crowning achievement. For God's sake, get the copy on DVD from Warner Bros.
Although the Image Entertainment copy holds sentimental value for me (my friend produced it to video through Image), and it has a fully orchestrated, new rendition of Chaplin's score (Carl Davis), get the Warner copy, as it has the best image mastery and variety of graytones.
