Review of City Lights (1931) by Michael R — 09 Jul 2008
Gorgeous and hilarious. Chaplin's Tramp character is incredibly endearing, probably because he is almost childlike in his expressive silence. The ending is probably the sweetest, most emotional moment in movies I've experienced.
This is because the realization that the flower girl accepts the Tramp for who he really is is not complicated or cluttered by words, allowing the raw emotion to effortlessly reach us. A masterpiece in every sense of the word.
