Review of City Lights (1931) by Paul V — 17 Feb 2009
Fantastic movie. (Makes me wish that I'd been exposed to more classic films like this at a younger age, but hey, I can catch up.) The film takes full advantage of being silent, and is laugh-out-loud funny from the first scene; yet it has a somewhat tragic undertone; and still yet it has one of the most touching and uplifting endings in any film I've seen.
The main idea of the film, as I saw it, that a man or woman could be fulfilled by the right person and love for and from them alone, regardless of economic standing, is timeless, beautiful, and should resonate with anyone with anything like a heart.
Must-see.
