Review of City Lights (1931) by Samuel S — 21 Jan 2010
City Lights is a masterpiece and shows the genius that is Charlie Chaplin. Just when you think you're watching a comedy, you'll find yourself in a moment that shows sacrifice and love. Chaplin plays with appearances and sight like no other film.
The tramp's desperate lack of food and shelter is foiled to the point where you realize you are not watching a movie about a homeless straggler, but the one character in the film who understands the human need of companionship, friendship, help, and humour.
